In a meeting on January 26, 2016, the Placer County Board of Supervisors received updates on several projects underway in the Lake Tahoe area. Projects planned for Squaw Valley are currently in various stages of the planning process.  Complete project descriptions can be found on the Placer County website.

  • Village at Squaw Valley Expansion

In its article on January 28th the Sierra Sun reports that the final environmental document on this project is likely to be released in the spring rather than in January as originally anticipated.  The law requires that all comments raised on the Draft Environmental Impact Report must receive responses before the document can be finalized.  Approximately 350 comments were made thus delaying the document preparation.  When completed, the Report must be circulated for ten days after which public hearings will be held.  First of all, the Placer County Planning Commission will review the environmental document as well as the specific plan in order to provide a recommendation to the Placer County Board of Supervisors.  The Board will approve, deny or direct further modifications to the document at a hearing expected to be held in the summer.

  • Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows Base-to-Base Gondola

The gondola, operating only in the winter, will accommodate eight persons and carry up to 1,400 persons per hour in both directions from the base at Squaw Valley to the base at Alpine Meadows. At this time, the proposed project is under review by both Placer County and the U S Forest Service.  The Notice of Preparation is projected to be released in late winter or early spring.  Preparation of the Draft Environmental Impact Report will follow and could take 12 to 18 months to complete.

  • Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn

When all approvals have been completed, the existing Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn will be demolished and replaced with a two- and five-story hotel, two condominium buildings and an underground parking structure.  Public review of the Notice of Preparation has been completed.  As of January 29, 2016, review of the Administrative Draft Environmental Impact Report is underway by the county.

  • Resort at Squaw Creek

Resort at Squaw Creek Townhomes Phase 2A – 24 three bedroom condominium town home residences grouped in three low-rise buildings adjacent to and facing the existing golf course.  The entire Phase 2 of the project was originally approved in 1990 and authorized 409 units in a mid-sized structure, and 32 units in 3 low-rise buildings for a total of 441 units.  In 2006, three final maps were ultimately recorded for phases 2A, 2B, and 2C. Phase 2A was originally approved for the 32 units but based on market conditions, the Resort has decided to build 24 three bedroom units.  The project also proposed to realign the existing access road, golf cart path and reconfigure a portion of the existing parking area.  It appears that work will start on Phase 2 this spring.
